  • Category of museum : Musée de France museum
  • Sites de mémoire
Museum around the theme of History, Military interest in GRAVELOTTE with the quality label Musée de France

Classed as a "French National Museum", this history museum is the only one today in Europe to solely focus on the 1870 War and the annexation of Alsace and La Moselle (1871- 1918). The objective of the Museum is to enrich our understanding of this war and this period which remain relatively little known. It ensures that it improves comprehension of the history of Alsace-Moselle and its particularities in an international perspective. Opposite the museum, La Halle du souvenir, the largest monument dedicated to the 1870 War is a fundamental part of the visit. In the permanent exhibition, visitors can see French and German military collections, as well as photographs and documents, objects from daily life and works of art. The museum also has chronological and thematic multimedia demonstrations.
